When it rained in night

One moonlit night,
Clouds played,
Hide and seek,
With the moon,
Around her face.

And it rained outside,
Within the trees,
Where we stood,
After running again,
Hands in hands.

Lost in the forest,
In the rain,
Where there was fire –
That never spreads-
To burn the leaves,
But to sooth the souls.
With the warmth of love.

Wind was silent,
So do the birds,
Silent were the tree leaves,
All were hearing –
The dripping water
In the pond, falling drops –
From the pine grooves.

But in the thunders,
All the sound seemed lost,
somewhere in darkness,
And we felt our entity,
Hands held together.

छुईमुई

गोल गुलाबी फुलों में ,
मेरे घर के सामने,
आज हरे पत्तों में घिरी ,
खिली है एक छुईमुई ।Chui Mui Blooming

मन करता है छू लूँ ।
बैठ बच्चों की तरह निहारूँ ।
बचपन की मेरी संगिनी,
चुपचाप सुनती छुईमुई ।

पहचान न सका कोई,
अनजानी बनी रही वो,
गुलाबों से भी प्यारी,
छोटी सी एक छुईमुई ।

Chui Mui Plantएक पहचान की प्यासी,
एक छुवन को अभिलाषी,
वैसी ही शरमाती लजाती,
राह तकती एक छुईमुई ।

Dividing Cauvery Water

Today, some violence seemed to have occurred in some sensitive parts of the town. The issue has been so called unfavourable decision towards Karnataka, by Supreme Court’s on distribution of the Cauvery’s water among four states.

Last time in 1991, on the announcement of such decision the riots occurred, taking several lives. Hence today, thousands of police personal are deputed in some areas. Though I could not see any affect in my locality and even far around. Life is as usual to my eyes.

Cauvery OriginI have seen the origin place of the Cauvery river, the Tal-Cauvery hills, from where Cauvery originates. Before seeing this, I have seen only the Ganga, the Godavari and the Mahanadi with their mighty existence. On first sight of the Cauvery, I could not believe that the comparatively narrow river can be of such an importance. Being the rivers on hills, though flow rate is high, but width is quite less. Now presently, instead of measuring its length and width of a river as a geologist, I would like to call her as lean – thin mighty mother of four states’ farmers.

The mother is prayed, at the origin. People take holy water from there, calling it Dakshini Ganga (southern Ganga). The mother comes down with all joys and the willingness to meet her children to Cauvery in hills, in the rainy seasonfeed them. And down the line, among children it needs division, as if why she can’t feed all her children to their satisfaction!

The materialistic world, with more population, with human drawn boundaries in between stands the capital of Karnataka, Bangalore – with all its glory. Here emotions mostly flow in the binary computer bits within the outdated hardware of equally senseless political system.

I know these issues need practical approach to solve, not a poetic language of mine. And at the same time, I do wonder, how much practical and objective decisions, think tanks at centre make. I am not sure of the political , social and economical outcome of this decision and feel equally helpless to suggest them with some (surely unheard) alternative!

And I feel at this moment is, there lies the crave for fulfilling exponentially increasing needs from the mother, than the mother holds in her bosom. Until there is an unwillingness to know about her limitations,we selfish children may suffer more. The mother always gives her best, coming down from the hills, to the children herself. Everything can be resolved if we can really talk the matter among we so  called intellectuals, out of those our drawn state boundaries. I am not sure, whether I will be able to taste the water, when the Cauvery’s water gets mixed up with her tears, on these sad occasions !

Sell me your sweater

I have a great business plan. I want to do business of sweaters to compete with Monte Carlo. Now I shall start purchasing sweaters and stock them at a hired go down. Year after year the number of sellers will increase because earth is getting warmer each year. And each year the cost price for them will also decrease. Already the average global temperature has increased. Fortunately, the rate of temperature increase continues, the average temperature will rise by 11 degrees Celsius across the globe. The polar ice will melt down and all coastal towns will be submerged in sea. Then our eyes will open and we will do everything to bring back the normal temperature of the earth and the winter season will exist again. Then I will start selling the sweaters. The ordinary sweaters will be sold at the rate of Monte Carlo.

Coming to the point, 1,00,000 computers (131 computers from India ) across globe participated in global research to predict the global warming masterminded by Oxford University. If you believe, the Environmental Sustainability Index disclosed at World Economic Forum in Davos, our India is ranked 101 in the list of 146 countries. Higher the rank more faulty is the country. The next booming global China is at 133. Hindi-Chini Bhai-Bhai! The indicators used by the Yale and Columbia university scientists were air quality, biodiversity, and efforts to improve the environment.

If you still want to use your sweaters, migrate to countries like Finland, Norway, Uruguay or Sweden because they don’t contribute to global warming.

Famous scientific journal “Nature” published from London states that the temperature surges will be much higher than worst-case scenarios that have so far been drawn up.Myles Allen, a member of Oxford team quotes: “The danger zone is not sometime in future. We’re in it now.”

Before thinking about this business it’s our business to check up the Kyoto protocol too.
Kyoto Protocol: A pact agreed by governments at 1997 UN conference in Kyoto, Japan to reduce the amount of green house gases emitted by developed countries by 5.2 percent of 1990 levels during the five year period 2008-2012. A total of 122 nations have ratified or acceded to it.

So it’s legally binding? It is binding once 55 per cent of the signatories which must, between them, represent 55 per cent of developed countries’ carbon dioxide emissions. Kyoto has surpassed the requirement of signatories but has so far only received pledges from nations representing 44 per cent of total emissions. US president George Bush pulled out in 2001(He got elected again!) arguing that Kyoto was too expensive and unfairly excludes developing nations. The united state is the biggest polluter with 36 per cent share.

How will it be enforced?
If countries emit more gases than allowed under their targets at the end of 2012, they will be required to make cuts, and 30 percent more, in the second commitment period which is due to start in 2013.

Does every country have to reduce emissions by 5.2 per cent?
No. only 39 countries – relatively developed ones – have target levels for the 2008-2012 period. Each country negotiated different targets, with Russia aiming for stabilisation at 1990 levels and the European Union taking an 8 per cent cut.

So how are they doing so far?
Most countries are lagging behind their targets under Kyoto. In European Union only Britain and Sweden are on track.

So will you sell your sweater to me or you will be my business partner? And if we don’t start the business immediately, we must think something towards global warming, such that this business never starts.
