Sarva Siksha Abhiyan – the execution reality

The children are about to follow the parents – as they are born of illiterate parents forming a vast class of Indian illiterate, somnolent society. As our integral part of society, this class spends nights in the murkiness of huts and slums. A grotesque persona of another Indian – to form an uncivilized massed of developing country. With them along us, we economic reform advocates have compunction about ground realities.

While for our developing country, visualizing vision 2020, is daunted by this mass of children, who are currently in the age group of 5- 10 (supposed to be in class I – V), and by the year 2020, they will form the youth aged 18 to 23. Govt. policies of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) as planned in the communiqué, if implemented properly, will make some difference by that time – I am sure.

Evidently as I have seen my last home trip, the managing the Abhiyan is a challenge with the available man-power and additional contractual positions. When the locally elected persons serve voluntarily in the school governing body, the concerted execution of the program was thought to be smooth. Worth to add is, currently financial assistance available in these programs, with transparency, hence details need not secluded, seems far better, compared to trifle funds available earlier for doing so.

As the are funds available and given the nature of planned spending, brings sometimes management problems, when govt. bodies gets embroiled with locally elected management representative bodies. The challenges arises, when these representatives, from ‘quota’s turn out logically blunt/twisted. At this situations, there requires not being martinet, but authoritativeness and skillful manoeuvering of surreal meeting situations.

At the ground level, still the manual trumpery documentation and accounting process is underway in these programs. And this is really time and productive time consuming. These most of the bland junk of paper-works forms the heap in the govt. offices, that needs to be cleaned fast. Otherwise just paper works are not supposed to deliver a fecund SSA.

The assiduity of the teacher’s efforts as chain link between policies on paper – the beneficiary children – funds and pedagogues may show some results in near future.

Just Headache

Head straight,
Pupils still,
Fingers busy,
On the keyboard.

Body seemed numb,
As if something lost,
And those glasses –
Covering eyes,
Still did glare.
Reflected all the lights,
– shining outwards .

Glasses do shine,
Until he saw,
Two drops,
Falling down.

Oh no ! Its nothing,
Just normal headache !

Please do pray for Yugi

Yugandhar (Yugi) is a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya kurnool, A.P. alumni.

Yugi’s mother has only one kidney in her body and as well he too have a single kidney in his body. Holding hands of his thin mother, he came out of the hospital Hyderabad Kidney Center after 6 hours of dialysis. To an unknown they may look like just another sick person coming out the hospital, unless one knows the story in full.

Yugi’s mother used to be a proud village mother of two intelligent sons, Koteshwar and Yugandhar (Yugi), who got through the Navodaya Vidyalaya scholarship exams. A family with father, uncle and everyone else proudly lived happily with its existence.

As the teenagers they came out of the school passing the 12th exam, as normal healthy boys and joined the professional courses.

Their mother carried one X chromosome, the carrier of alport’s syndrome. She never knew it. As she was just a carrier, without affecting her health or showing any symptom. And as the sons born from the mother’s ill fated womb, they carried the mother’s X chromosome.

The chromosome when carried by sons from such mother carrier in most cases, leads to failure of their kidney as they reach 20’s and 30’s !

As Koteshwar reached their 20’s the X-Chromosome carrying the Alport’s syndrome started showing its dreaded effects. Koteshwar’s both kidneys started failing miserably. Getting a kidney is much harder than getting lakhs. Her mother promptly gave her one of the kidney to save the life of his elder son.

What about their father and uncle and other male family members? – Everyone was killed brutally by Naxalities, for nothing but to make headlines in the papers!

The family was devastated. The mother with his sick sons was forced to leave the village.

Elder son, Koteshwar tried to relive with the donated kidney of mother. One day he was out of home and never came back.

Koteshwar’s younger brother, Yugandhar too developed the same symptoms of kidney failure when he reached his 20’s. Doctors gave a deadline for kidney transplantation from some donor. It was a tough task to find a donor from relatives, as now the rules are strict that only family members can donate kidney. Seeing none around, mother prayed to doctors to take her lone kidney to her son and save his life. The things were taking a bad shape – the media noticed the case and did the rest job.

A healthy lady with consent of her husband came out to donate the kidney, without asking for a penny. As donor was not a relative – hence we alumni have to take a lot of exceptional legal and medical permission for this transplantation.

Now we required lakhs of Rupees, we asked for money from different sources. It was a really tough task. Even then we came out more than 2. 6 lakhs across the global alumni and welfare organizations. Currently more donations have poured in. I personally went through the nicely written donations and expenditure details in the beautiful handwriting of Yugandhar himself.

The transplantation for Yugi was done one day. And the mother cried when the marathon transplation operation was successful. Months passed off ! Fortunately in the same hospital, one of our alumni is a doctor.

Many a times, when all the doors seemed closed, some lights come in the dark. Now with the lights around, his body accepted the new kidney in his body.

And still he is not to the normal life.

I could not carry any fruit, Horlicks or any edibles, as everything is forbidden for him even in juice form for time being. And on one occasion, while we 4 friends were sitting near to Yugi, his mother went down the hospital and carried 4 bottles of Slice for us, from some shop. We were helplessly seeing her, this motherhood, we could do nothing, but took that.

But recently some news came alarming to us.

As he has to go regular urine check-ups, he was found with abnormal levels of constitutents. Ketone level reached to 15 mg/dL, whether normal person have less than 2mg/dL .

He is undergoing frequent dialysis. Another Navodayan doctor Srijana is trying, her proved Homeopathy medicines too for his kidney acceptance in the body.

Now experts are saying that this is turning out the case of kidney rejection. Even with proper treatment, there is only 20-30 % chance of his survival.

The fact is there are two persons -a Mother and a Son. Each having just one kidney, and same willingness to live more years together. Money is not a problem now – we need something more and that costs nothing to us.

Please do pray for their health and long life, whatever you can ….

One day – A letter

It was December, 2004. I was new to the blogging world, and with the burning desire to express myself efficiently, that I learnt. I got the contacts many of the bloggers and their blogs that used to draw my attention towards them, so do I used to.

And this blogger used to be a girl, many years younger to me. I was just regular reader of the blog. Due to some comments, good ones of mine, it became personal mails, in number not more than two or three, that included a third blog friend.

And while writing on a public place, I used to be some kind of not so confident those days. The confidence came when I joined Hindi bloggers (of north Indians) (and the brotherhood I carry in that group is ‘exemplary’ ).

Emotionally sick persona of mine ! One day I wrote a letter to that girl with casual approach (To repeat, no-way for friendship) ,as she had some connections with our institution. The reply, I got was correct in her point of view – the summary was – “no net friendship”. Each paragraph of mine was replied with a paragraph. No salutation – no ending ! The language of the mail was quite different than her blog !

The basic humanity – that we believe, found no place as the nature of net is – full of ambiguity.

I was depressed for two days – why I was replied so badly? When I wrote for want of constructive criticism. I didn’t asked even, why she wrote so to me ?

Only thing that stops me taking a revenge, – the lines, again from Ma – “God has sent you here after making you elder, never equalize after taking revenge ! “

But I was replied for something good !

The classes of immersing classical music only relieved me those days, still unknown to my family members.

Did I changed to her ? No, never ever ! I maintained that till level of blog for full two years, what I was to what I am.

One day we meet in real life for some another work. And that must be time, when she might have found that I am same or may be better than the another ‘net person’.

I still no-way can think of a friendship with her, though I do carry a lot of respect for her as a person having human limitations, adding to the fact for somethings, I was inspired without her knowledge. I guess today, when she interacts with me in real life, she trusts me like her another elder brother. Hope she may read this someday.

I guess to improve the writings, apart from blog, it took around 2 years to reach from (im)maturity level to this current level, which you can judge better. Now the things have reversed. There are some very good readers (some of them rarely put comments) without real life interaction, and I do stay on a level of trust that I am writing this post, without hesitation or fear of relations, I have made here.

The lesson from the letter was – I was not trusted based on my words. And the tears that afternoon made me more determined that – lets us see – whether my words can become my identity or not !

I have just started the journey through my 5-elemental life medium, to continue some inherited stuff, and I do strongly believe that someone will carry it forward one day. For the time beling, I am, was and will remain the same.
